Abstract: Six main urban meteorological disasters were analyzed in order to understand the annual and seasonal change characteristics of urban meteorological disasters,including waterlogging,thunder and lightning,heavy fog,high temperature heat wave,windstorm,ice and snow freeze injury,in terms of the disaster data in Nanchang from 1954 to 2005.The results indicate that urban meteorological disasters are of obvious seasonal characteristics in Nanchang.Rainstorm,heavy fog and high temperature heat wave are increasing,while thunder and lightning,windstorm and ice and snow freeze injury are decreasing.According to the factors causing disasters,some suggestions and countermeasures against meteorological disasters in Nanchang were put forward,including the plans to strengthen urban construction planning,to improve urban atmospheric environment quality and to enhance disaster monitoring and warning.
