Abstract: Using the ECMWF (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) ERA-interim reanalysis data, convention observation data and GPS (Global Position System) precipitable water vapor (PWV) observations, the variations of PWV during the three snow-falling processes occurring in Liaoning province were analyzed. The results indicate that the variations of PWV present a single-peak structure during the snowfalls. There is a good correlation between the variations of PWV and the hourly amounts of snowfall. The occurrence of snowfall corresponds to the high value of PWV.The PWV has increased rapidly since the snowfall occurred six to fifteen hours ago.The total increasing amount of PWV is positively correlated with the intensity of snowfall.
